Who We Are
The Omineca Arts Centre is an interdisciplinary, locally-led artist run centre that is grounded in arts-based community development. Omineca is set to facilitate collaboration and diversify opportunities for emerging & professional visual, literary, musical and performing artists.
The Omineca Arts Centre is located in a storefront in the pedestrian core of Prince George's downtown. First operating at the site of the Neighbourhood Time Exchange I Downtown Prince George, an innovative artist residency project led by artist Justin Langlois with Living Labs at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. During the project, 9 artists and artist groups worked directly with community organizations over the course of a year, generating dialogue and a range of socially engaged activities that revealed a significant community need for a more permanent local model of arts-based community engagement. Omineca was initially established in partnership with Emily Carr University of Art + Design and Two Rivers Gallery.
Our aim at our new location is to co-develop meaningful and collaborative artistic projects, experiences, and models for catalyzing arts and culture in Prince George and the surrounding region, while prioritizing inclusivity, responsiveness, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Omineca invites local, regional and visiting artists, curators, musicians, performers, authors & poets to connect and engage in projects and collaborate with us to support, enhance and drive the capacity and reality of the arts in Central and Northern British Columbia.
